"For Your Heartthrob" Recipe Contest
Seductive Sweet Chosen as Winner of Quaker Oats Recipe Contest
Kitchens across the country were heating up with an array of aromas and flavors, revealing the creativity behind America’s most impressive home cooks as they prepared for the Quaker® Oats “For Your Heartthrob” Recipe Contest. If the way to your loved one’s heart is through his (her) stomach, then Quaker has the winning recipes to make that day of love delicious for someone special or the whole family.
For Charlotte, N.C., resident Janice Elder, that meant whipping up a delectable caramel-topped cheesecake with a crunchy, oat-pecan crust. Elder, the $5,000 Grand Prize Winner of this year’s contest, took three of her all-time favorites – oats, salted caramels and cheesecake – and created a dazzling miniature delight. Elder says her mini cheesecakes are a “darn tasty” seductive sweet to share with your heartthrob, and the judges agreed. Lucky for Elder, her heartthrob and unofficial judge tastes and reviews any recipe she’s ever entered.
“My husband is definitely the taster. He’s brutally honest!” said Elder. “Winning Quaker’s contest was certainly a great way to start off the year."
In addition to the Grand Prize, three talented home cooks won $2,000 for first prize in each category: “Breakfast in Bed,” “Dinner Dates” and “Seductive Sweets.” Elder entered her recipe in the “Seductive Sweets” category.
Quaker also awarded three $1,000 second prizes and 25 ceramic Quaker Oats cookie jars to the honorable mention winners. All entries were judged on taste and appearance, convenience and creativity.
